There really is no one ironclad stereotype when it comes to loneliness. On the other hand, a person with a big family and successful career might seem happy to the general public – but inside, they might feel totally and utterly alone. For example, someone living alone with no friends might seem lonely to an onlooker, but on the inside, they might be perfectly content and relaxed. Ultimately, loneliness is very subjective. However, perhaps one of the biggest overlooked reasons why many of us struggle with loneliness is because we lack a deep connection with our soul – the deep spark of love and wisdom within us. Chronic health issues (like fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, etc.) and other physical disabilities.Having a disability (such as autism, ADHD, etc.).Childhood trauma and later-life trauma (this also includes being in toxic relationships, struggling with narcissistic family members, physical/emotional/mental abuse, etc.) causing issues like PTSD, C-PTSD, and other trauma symptoms.Mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.Poor, underdeveloped, or neurodivergent social skills.Undergoing a spiritual awakening process.Possessing different values or beliefs from the vast majority of those around you.Undergoing a quarter life crisis, midlife crisis, or existential crisis.Lacking access to quality relationships where we can share our deepest thoughts, feelings, and beliefs (this can be due to numerous reasons, such as working too much, living in a community that doesn’t meet your needs, struggling to connect to likeminded people, etc.).Death of a spouse, child, family member, or loved one.(Thankfully, I left religion over a decade ago.) Other reasons why we can feel lonely often include: Being taught that outsiders were “evil” caused me to distance myself from everyone which caused a deep-seated sense of loneliness. While loneliness might be universally felt, the reasons why we feel it are unique for each person.įor example, I felt lonely for many years due to the trauma of being brought up in a fundamentalist Christian religion that isolated me from everyone. In fact, in our latest survey, the site that found the most hotels was actually an OTA, and not an aggregator that supposedly canvasses it. Why include smaller OTAs at all when there are aggregators that check them? Well, some aggregators aren’t nearly as good as they should be at combing through those booking engines. We tested both OTAs and the aggregators that search them. There are basically three types of websites we use to find hotels: OTAs (online travel agencies) the hotels’ own websites, which may offer deals OTAs can’t match (and you should always double-check yourself before booking) and aggregators, or meta-search engines, which don’t actually handle reservations-they trawl both OTAs and hotel sites to return a compendium of results, then send you to your choice for booking. It was February 10, 2007, which was the opening day of the 2007 baseball season. I was a part of the largest crowd in Tad Pad history, a game which, in my estimation, was the loudest I've ever heard the place. We all have formed some pretty great memories of our times as Ole Miss students or fans within the structurally unsound confines she offered, and with today being the last day that the coliseum will see SEC basketball, we felt it appropriate to share some of these memories with you. But let's not pretend like we're not going to miss the Tad Pad, even if just a little bit. It makes good sense that we're dumping the place for something brand new and, at the very least, highly functional. It also has the traits typical of a building over half-a-century old, with seating appropriate for people a few inches shorter and 25 pounds lighter than they are on average today, the acoustics of a concrete box, and a seeming inability to support a lighting system appropriate for high-definition television cameras.Īlso, the roof leaks, the power shorts out, and it's heated by a system that requires an actual chimney. The Rebs' on-campus coliseum, a structure that aesthetically is reminiscent of the Cold War fears and UFO obsessions common in the American zeitgeist of the early 1960's. With the Pavilion at Ole Miss under construction and slated to be ready for the opening of SEC basketball play in January of 2016, the Tad Pad will soon see its doors shuttered and, eventually, be demolished to make way for a green space. 500 in conference play, this is a contest that would have little intrigue or import if it weren't the final SEC men's contest to take place at Ole Miss' beloved-yet-much-maligned Tad Pad. With the Rebs a virtual lock for the NCAA tournament and the 'Dores sitting just under. Tonight, the Ole Miss Rebels will take on the Vanderbilt Commodores on their home floor in the C.M. His name "Junjie" means "handsome hero" in Mandarin. The Emperor only used Junjie's real name once. In Slugterra: Eastern Caverns, even though he isn't the "Dark Slinger", the Emperor still kept on calling him that. His Mecha Beast is an LK-E model like Eli's, but blue.Junjie so far appears in one slugisode Smile! however does not speak. As interesting as it is, Junjie seems to know how to speak Mandarin, as he was shouting orders to his Slugs (when dueling Eli in the earlier part of Return of the Elementals) in what sounded like Mandarin.Although Junjie might come off as the most experienced slinger in the Shane Gang and knows Slug Fu, making him one of the greatest slingers in history, he had never heard of or seen the Darkbane before the events in Return of the Elementals. This is because Gar has never seen The Eastern Caverns before. In A Distant Shore when Burpy is slung, Gar Revelle mentions that only one person has such a specimen, but in Ghoul from Beyond Junjie debuts with an Infurnus of his own.He mentioned he had been riding on Joo-Joo since he was 5 years old.His blasters are similar to Dana's and Stocker's blasters.Slug Fu is also capable of stopping a slug/ghoul while in velocity.Slug Fu is used to synchronize a slinger and a slug/ghoul and let the slingers control the slug/ghoul and guide them in any direction of their choosing.Slug Fu is actually derived from "Sky Fu" in Storm Hawks and Chinese Kung Fu.Junjie is a master of the mysterious art of Slug Fu.Slugterra : Ascension Episode 10 (Mentioned). But in a near by mine, a legendary monster known as the Pyritor is attacking and the gang decides to check it out & help, but Junjie is skeptical about the monster's existence and its history in the caverns. While taking a short break, Eli and Junjie challenge each other to see who's better at Slug Fu and slugslinging, now that Eli's skills have greatly improved. Slugterra: Ghoul from Beyond as Dark Slinger. After returning harmony and peace to the Eastern Caverns, he remained there as The Eastern Champion of the time, and continued to defend his caverns. The Eastern Champion returned to save the Eastern Caverns, and defeat the Emperor, and he did. Then, Jun entered into a portal that led to the Eastern Caverns, and fought the Emperor. Junjie then helped the Shane Gang to fight the Goon, Blakk and the evil forces from the Deep Caverns. The Goon then ceased controlling Junjie and corrupted Eli, and twisted him into his loyal servant, but the Shane Gang cured him using Doc. He opened a terraportal using the energy of the Fandango, and entered the 99 Caverns. The Goon then sent Junjie on a mission to enter the 99 Caverns, and find their champion - Eli. He helped the Emperor in gaining as many slugs as possible, so that the Emperor may sue them for his sinister plot. He served the Emperor for twenty years as the Dark Slinger, and wreaked havoc upon the Eastern Caverns. Using the Goon, the Emperor twisted Junjie into a wretched human, and he was called during the period of his corrution the Dark Slinger. But one day, a threat came that even Slug Fu could not stop: an evil slug known as the Goon allied with the sinister Emperor. For centuries, his ancestors had used the ancient slugslinging art of Slug Fu to keep the Eastern Caverns safe. Like Eli, Junjie inherited the role of protector when he came of age. Junjie trained day and night, and prepared to become the Protector of his caverns. Junjie grew up in the distant Eastern Caverns, an isolated region completely unknown to the 99 caverns that Eli protects.

How to Find Cool Valve Stem Caps for Your Ride The country’s latest reported crop losses were in May and June 2011 when a dry spell in Pemagatshel, one of Bhutan’s poorest districts in the east, destroyed hundreds of acres of maize. According to experts, the losses, which began around 2004, are the direct result of increasing pest and disease attacks, erratic rainfall, windstorms, droughts, flash floods and landslides. The UNDP report is the third National Human Development Report for Bhutan, entitled “Sustaining Progress: Rising to the Climate Challenge” and it warns that melting of the country’s glaciers can lead to water shortages in the future and jeopardize the hydropower sector, which the economy is dependent on.Īgriculture experts have also warned recently that they are concerned at increasing crop losses in Bhutan in recent years, which are attributable to global warming. The Himalayan country, Bhutan, has maintained its status as a net sink for greenhouse gases (GHGs) by applying an export ban on unprocessed forest timber and by constitutionally protecting 60% of the country’s forest cover. Costa Rica, Norway, Iceland, Maldives, New Zealand, Tuvalu and Vatican City. New Zealand wants to be the first CO2 neutral country.Īs I read in a UN Development Programme (UNDP) report that Bhutan has committed to environmental conservation and to remain a carbon neutral country, I wondered if there are countries that are already carbon neutral! There are many initiatives out there that seek to assist individuals, businesses and states in reducing their carbon footprint or achieving climate neutrality, so I carried out databases searches and found a few countries that have pledged to become carbon-neutral by 2020 to 2030, i.e. "But to leave these celestial causes and things done of antiquity long ago, my father by his continual painful practices, assisted with demonstrations Mathematical, was able, and sundry times hath by proportional Glasses duly situate in convenient angles, not only discovered things far off, read letters, numbered pieces of money with the very coin and superscription thereof, cast by some of his friends of purpose upon downs in open fields, but also seven miles off declared what hath been done at that instant in private places."Īlthough Digges may have created a rudimentary instrument involving lenses and mirrors, the optical performance required to see the details of coins lying about in fields, or private activities seven miles away, was far beyond the technology of the time. Thomas Digges describes his father's device (In the preface to his 1591 Pantometria) as follows: They may have been experimental devices and were never widely reported or reproduced. Writings by John Dee and Thomas Digges in England in 15, respectively ascribe the use of both reflecting and refracting telescopes to Thomas' father Leonard Digges. There is some documentary evidence, but no surviving designs or physical evidence, that the principles of telescopes were known in the late 16th century. "This part of optics, when well understood, shows us how we may make things a very long distance off appear as if placed very close, and large near things appear very small, and how we may make small things placed at a distance appear any size we want, so that it may be possible for us to read the smallest letters at incredible distances." Pre 17th Century Developments Thus, early knowledge of lenses and the availability of lenses for spectacles from the 13th century onwards through the 16th century means that it was possible for many individuals to discover the principles of a telescope using a combination of concave or concave and convex lenses in the 13th century, Robert Grosseteste wrote several scientific treatises between 12, including De Iride (Concerning the Rainbow), in which he said: It is generally considered that spectacles for correcting long sightedness with convex lenses were invented in Northern Italy in the late 13th to early 14th century, and the invention of the use of concave lenses to correct near-sightedness is ascribed to Nicholas of Cusa in 1451. It was approximately from the 12th century in Europe that 'reading stones' (magnifying lenses placed on the reading material) were well documented-as well as the use of lenses as burning glasses. He used the law of refraction to derive lens shapes that focus light with no geometric aberrations, known as anaclastic lenses. Ibn Sahl is credited with first discovering the law of refraction, usually called Snell's law. Ptolemy (in his work Optics written in the 2nd century AD) wrote about the properties of light including reflection, refraction, and color.ĭuring the 10th century, Ibn Sahl, a Muslim mathematician of the Islamic Golden Age, in his treatise On Burning Mirrors and Lenses sets out his understanding of how curved mirrors and lenses bend and focus light. Simple lenses made from rock crystal and their properties were known well before the invention of the modern optical telescope. It was proposed that the lens was used by the ancient Assyrians as part of a telescope, and that this explains their knowledge of astronomy. It may have been used as a magnifying glass, or as a burning-glass to start fires by concentrating sunlight, or it may have been a piece of decorative inlay. The Nimrud lens is a 3000-year-old piece of rock crystal, which was unearthed in 1850 by Austen Henry Layard at the Assyrian palace of Nimrud, in modern-day Iraq. |
